We are a philanthropic fund that supports projects in the areas of education and health.

Our purpose is to help break down barriers to learning, support mental health and promote medical advances.

Founded in 2009 by Patrice de Camaret, a French entrepreneur and investor located in Brazil, the ABCD Charitable Trust is registered with the Charity Commission, which regulates philanthropic entities in England and Wales. Donations are defined by the trust group, following the strict regulations of the English commission and criteria, based on the purpose of the fund.

The idea of creating a fund – not a non-governmental organization (NGO) – was to specifically support institutions and professionals who were already fighting for the cause of dyslexia and education in Brazil. In order to do so, the ABCD Trust has allocated its first investments to the creation of the ABCD Institute, inspired by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) model: diagnostic support, educational initiatives and advocacy.

Since then, the ABCD Trust has provided financial support to entities and professionals involved in research and activities in education, literacy, mental health and medical technologies in Brazil and other countries. In addition to financial support, it fosters networks in order to best leverage its supported projects.

Dyslexia

Access to specialized diagnosis and care, teaching practices and appropriate technologies, support for persons with dyslexia and their families and creation of public policies aimed at learning disorders.

Literacy

The functional illiteracy rate in Brazil is estimated at approximately 30%, which is not only a serious social problem, but al makes identification of dyslexia more difficult. Therefore, we support initiatives that work to improve the literacy rate in Brazil.

Mental Health

In addition to being fundamental to people's well-being and dignity, mental health strongly impacts learning. Among our goals is the democratization of access to mental health promotion actions and scientific development in this area.

Medical Advances

Research in the area of health requires high investment in human and material resources. We support institutions and researchers who are at the forefront of psychiatry, neurology and robotic surgery. We also create bridges for the exchange of knowledge, crucial to scientific advancement.

Our vision is a more just society,
with education and healthcare for all.

To help make it a reality,
the ABCD Charitable Trust is guided by three values:

Trust

We have established a relationship of mutual trust with the projects we support.

Partnership

Our support is more than financial: we help projects take off.

Collaboration

We build bridges among supported projects, so they grow stronger.

A little more about the story of our founding… In the early 2000s, Patrice’s son Nicolas was diagnosed with dyslexia. Unable to find adequate care in Brazil, the family moved to England, where the educational system had established practices and resources aimed at dyslexia.

“In England, we learned about the British Dyslexia Association (BDA), which was instrumental in creating an educational system that enables learning for those with learning disabilities. When I decided to start working with philanthropy, I thought about dyslexia in Brazil – after all, I had the opportunity to provide a quality education for my son, but most Brazilian families do not have this option,” says Patrice.

Our wish is for those with dyslexia or other learning disabilities to have the opportunity to learn.

Charity alone doesn’t change the world.

That’s why we practice philanthropy based on trust, partnership and collaboration.
